Cold Fear Review | Sailor Evil

Image
Cold Fear is one of those games that got lost upon its release, overshadowed by other titles in the same genre that have achieved greater success. Having never played it, I decided to give it a chance and see if there is anything of value. Aesthetics The atmosphere manages to creep The graphics are standard for a sixth generation video game that aims for a realistic style, except for the lighting system, which I consider noteworthy. Particle details are well done, especially those devoted to mutilating the enemies when hit in weak spots, like the head. The animations aren't the smoothest, they seem a little forced at times, but I've seen worse. The dubbing is decent, I found the performance of the actors sufficient. The soundtrack is ignorable, I have no memory of any tracks and it didn't take me at all. On the other hand, the sounds are ok, they manage to give some tension during the exploration sessions. The game doesn't support a 16:9 resolution, to have it you need...

The Darkside Detective Review | See you on the other side

Image
Despite having fallen into disuse by the larger software houses, point and click adventures games continue to live on thanks to the efforts of independent developers through their own original works. Works like the Darkside Detective. Aesthetics What's wrong? It's just the 3am train... The pixel art graphics used in the game are slightly minimal, with little detail for the characters, similar to other contemporary works created by other independent developers. It's not bad to look at, there are also nice scenes during the supernatural encounters, but the lack of a strong style doesn't make it shine as it could. The animations are rarely used, so much so especially when you transition from one area to another, the characters do not move, they are immediately placed in prefixed positions. The few animations present are used mostly for the secondary characters, just to give a minimum of vitality to the various scenes, so as not to make them seem completely static. There i...

Kohan 2 Review | Squads based tactics

Image
Often when you buy a game, you know very well who the money goes to. In the case of Kohan 2, it's not that clear as the company that produced it, TimeGate Studios, went bankrupt in 2013. Despite this, the game and its predecessor are still available for sale, good thing since the title has out-of-the-ordinary ideas. Aesthetics Besieging an enemy settlement Released in 2004, the 3D graphics used are not the best that could be offered at the time. Two years earlier, Warcraft 3 was released, which had much more vibrant graphics, and around the same time, the first Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth was released too, which was much more detailed. It isn't badly done, these two games simply had a better graphics. The user interface is very descriptive, like when you are going to buy something, it will show how much you will spend. It also takes into account the maintenance costs for each unit and it shows the groups assigned to the quick keys on the top left. One aspe...

Pureya Review | A nice pair of ... marbles

Image
Mini-game collections, like Pureya, are a particular type of title. They need to be able to balance action and a constant change of mechanics without being confusing, otherwise they would be frustratingly chaotic. Aesthetics   Eyes on the target The game uses pixel art graphics, but instead of using a style inspired by 8-bit titles, I would define the style used as "chill", it does not follow the rules that many make use of, it rather prefers to represent objects in a simple way. All in all, it's pretty even if not spectacular. I was impressed with the user interface, it only uses pictures and images, but they are clear enough to not need labels. Great job and it can save on translations or their possible errors. The music is composed of tracks of ten seconds each, in the chaos of the action, it is difficult to hear them. They don't stick around, but they don't bother you either. In short, Pureya aims for simplicity without sacrificing legibility or charm. Game ...
