Knights of the Temple Review | Deus kinda Vult!

Image
In the past, I expressed my enjoyment for Enclave , for, despite its many defects, it had a really enjoyable set of mechanics and a charm typical of newbie developers with little experience but a lot of passion. So, when I found out that Knights of Temple was made by the same company, I was curious to see what it would have come out from them. Aesthetics The camera manages to give some nice shots despite its rigidity The 3d graphics are what one can imagine for a game that aims for a realistic style. The characters look tolerable (although a bit expression-less during close-ups), the scenery is nice to see, both in the Gothic looking churches and the Arabian cities, but ultimately it remains a product of its time, with textures and models straight out of 2004. My only complaint are about the demons, I wished they appeared sooner in the game, their design together with the hellis...

Fight Knight Review | Uppercutting your way to victory

One kind of games I always find intriguing are those who set on to mix two seemingly incompatible genres. It's interesting to see what kind of solutions someone used to tackle so many design challenges and to ponder whether the end result will be just a nice but ultimately inconsequential experiment or a breakthrough to something greater. Fight Knight belongs to this kind of games. Aesthetics Mind your steps in the swamp I was struck by the looks, it uses 2.5 rendering for the characters similarly to classic Doom, with the heavy usage of sprites always looking at the player no matter the direction, except for the environments, they are fully modelled. This mixed with a colorful palette and very prominent lines give the game a unique look that makes it stand out. Most of the animations consists of a couple of frames at most, but they don't look bad at all, in fact the stylized looks make them quite appealing and easy to read, and since this is a game that requires fast reflex,...

Beyond Oasis Review | Aged like wine

Retro inspired titles are the main theme for many indie developers, one doesn't have to search hard to see the huge number of indie projects reminiscent of games from the past. To truly understand them, one must look at the source, see for themselves what inspired such a huge community. While it hasn't been yet the source for such inspiration, Beyond Oasis is still a classic, worthy to be taken a look at. Aesthetics Just a bunch of rat-men dancing around a fire, nothing dangerous at all ... The pixel art used has aged really well, thanks to the usage of vivid colors and huge, detailed sprites. I really enjoyed the animations, elaborated and effective, plus a detail I noticed is that you and the enemies get up almost instantly if on the floor, giving the fights a really nice feeling of an adrenal...

Enclave Review | A beautiful mess

Image
During the sixth generation of video games, the most popular genre at the time was the linear action adventure game, almost every title that was released belonged to this genre. Despite not reaching the popularity of others, Enclave is part of this category. Aesthetics Despite the age, it's possible to admire charming visuals The pure graphics are child of the sixth generation, with a graphical style influenced by the most typical fantasy, this isn't bad since it gives the game enjoyable scenes despite the texture being a bit low resolution. A small note, rise the brightness a lot, sometimes it becomes so dark to strain the eyes. The particle effects are ok, they are not the most pronounced but not invisible either. The animations are janky, they aren't ...
